Damien Jurado's Postcards and Audio Letters: "Our Kid is Getting Hurt"
Tracks 8. A terrible recording to put in the world? I think I regret it.
Readers & Listeners,
Closing out the Postcards and Audio Letters retrospective, and the last track has fucked me up. In my memory, “Our Kid is Getting Hurt” was a much longer recording—a tireless fight—but it’s only six minutes. In the length of a long song... an entire marriage, a whole family. I had not heard this track in a long time, and not since I divorced. Damien’s had a couple of divorces since we put this out.
“Our Kid is Getting Hurt” is the hardest, darkest track. It must have been recorded for the cops or the court.
I don’t feel great about having released this.
and I trade voice memos on it after the track. He loves it.🖤AV

I’ve been divorced for about two years, have three kids, and man, this is devastating to listen to.
