Readers, I know most of you don’t live in Kansas City (although I sent a ton of Issue Nine in print that way, surely due to hometown hero Kevin Morby’s essay inside), but I wanted to drop a quick note to announce the first Little Engines event in 20 years.
Little Engines presents:
MORNING, FUCKERS
Thursday February 8th
9:30 in the A.M.
Big Mood
2020 Baltimore Ave, Kansas City
Featuring: Mike Nagel, Amy Barnes, Bethany Ball, Kyle Seibel, Stephanie Austin, Michael Wheaton, Kevin Morby’s mom Sandy, and me, your editor.
We’ll have donuts, coffee, short readings, and good hangs. I’ll have copies of Issue Nine, and I reprinted a small number of Issues Six, Seven, and Eight, too.
I hope you’ll come, but if can’t get your ass out of bed early for this thing, swing by the booth at the bookfair. There will be candy!
Issue Nine is out now, and free in print. I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned online that the last issue and this new one come with an extra zine, I call them Little Engines Loosies. Issue Nine’s Loosie is an abridged version of Mike Nagel’s beloved column “The Unintentionalist” (RIP). You’ll also get a Bob Hicok poem exclusive to the print version, and stickers featuring Kami Baergen’s art from the issue.
If print’s not your thing, you can read the everything online here on Substack with or without a subscription.
THAT SAID: Your paid subscription helps keep the print issues free and puts money in the hands of writers & artists. Founding members are doing heavy lifting, and get extra stuff sent to their real-life mailbox, too. You can also support the magazine by hitting the tip jar, or buying a hat.
OK. Done selling. God I hate that part.
Love you,
Adam
My 10-year-old really enjoyed the stickers. He put them all over his water bottle and is now free advertising for Little Engines. He also enjoys Morby.
